IASL Meeting Place

Connecting school librarians and school libraries

Hello, I am planning to attend the IASL 2012 conference in Qatar, but was hoping to get some feedback from other members who have attended previous conferences as to their experience(s). It is an expensive professional develoment opportunity for my school to support, so I am trying to do some backgorund research as to whether it is very much worth our while for me to attend.

Thank you!

hi Genevieve,

Read and consider theme and subtopics of the conference will help you make your decision.  Venue may be a factor to decide for individuals, esp. if you are concern about what libraries, which city to see / visit and the costs.

I've attended only three IASL conferences so far: HK in 2005, Taipei in 2007 and Italy in 2009.  HK's conference turned out to be the most impressive [at the time when I was fresh and inexperienced].  There is always something to learn and share in all occasions.  The face-to-face interactions with speakers and audience cannot be replaced by online conferences, reading articles and research papers at my desk in the office.

I'd suggest going every few years if not every year.  Maybe you should talk to Prof. Diljit Singh or the President of IASL in your region.

Cheers,

Caroline
