Connecting school librarians and school libraries

Dear Professinal Colleagues
I am school librarian.I wanted to know how the system which you follow about missing books from the library. Do librarians need to pay or apply some permissible lost policy or no need to pay for missing books. Do you know any policy that you follow. To my knowledge missing books is no more resposible by librarians, specially in open access system. I will appreciate if any one can through more light on this issue or suggest me for the same.

Hi
We have a policy that students and teachers who lose a book must pay for the cost or rreplace with the same title.
Any books that a missing from the school library in the annual stocktake are marked as missing for 3 years then culled fromthe catalogue as missing forever.
having said that we sometimes have books returned to us after 5 years! Usually when someone leaves home or clears out cupboards and wardrobes.
The librarian does not pay for these. It is a fact of library life. Books go missing.
