Meeting the author Simon Winchester

Posted on September 23, 2008 at 1:16pm 0 Comments

Last night Simon Winchester (invited by The Royal Geographic Society ) flew to town to introduce his new book, a biography on Joseph Needham to a mesmerized audience of over 500 people at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.

Joseph Needham was a charismatic biochemist who published a twenty-four volume masterpiece on the history of invention and technology of China: "Science and Civilization in China".

Highly recommended for China enthusiasts.

Sorry to hear about your back, Ida. Hope the recovery is going well.
I'll get back to you in the new year when you've had some time and see how you could help with the info lit SIG.
I'm also glad to hear about our finishing your teacher librarian certification.
We just went through the visit of the IB team last week and so should know by the first of the year whether we are to be an IB school. always lots going on here--which is the way I like it!
Take care.

Thanks, Ida.
Glad you've joined the group.
This week I'm going to Yosemite National Park to celebrate my parents' 60th wedding anniversary. I will be joined by my brother and three sisiters and hope to have a wonderful time.
I've been working on a course for high school students in information literacy and am a little stuck on exactly how to structure it since it needs to be a hybrid course (part online, part face-to-face).
Speaking of info lit would you like to join the info lit SIG of IASL. I'm looking for some folks to help update the links on the website?
Thanks again for checking in. I look forward to hearing more about what you are doing in Hong Kong and visiting sometime in the not-to-distant future!
Tom
