Hello all school librarians in International Schools around the world, Please join the new group created for this 'region'. We are just getting started with some discussions - the first one is a real 'head-banger'! Define "International Schools"....

Hi Anthony and John, Thanks for your comments. I agree with you both....defining an international school is almost impossible.....we talked round and round to come up with the criteria above and although we were not 100% satisfied, we wanted to ge...

I'm not so sure about that last criterion, Ingrid - "Usually English or bi-lingual as the language of instruction". I believe there are Japanese, German, French, Spanish and surely many other international schools, teaching in the school's tongue...

Perhaps also add a statement about a commitment to internationalism. I realise it is implicit in factor (d), but philosophically may be more, and also suggests a difference between international schools and those that have a national affiliation, ...

Hi Ingrid,
I am glad that you are looking for me in OCC.Now you can find me more in IASL.Yes i am a member of IASL too. Because of OCC and IASL, I have learned so much and still learning new things every day. Within two years i have devoted my time in Promoting the Reading to my school and to other underpreviledge children. I have started reading programme called READ to ME. I have successfully involved Parents and teachers in this programme. Now i have so many passionate readers in my library. Very recently i have managed to collect around 400 books donation from Students, Parent and Wellwishers. I have donated to one of the local school(Physically Challenge School) Now I am working on Information Literacy and School Research. I want to develop Research Programme. I was very intrested in attending the forth coming IASL conference on School Research at Italy but unfortunately i cant effort to go by myself. I wish i could get some sponsar or some support. Do you have any idea of any NGO or organisation which support such programme? I will be very grateful to you if you could suggest me in this regard.

Hi Ingrid

Thanks for the update and link to the site. Some interesting things from the conference on it. Appreciate you sending it to me. I was supposed to be registered for the Singapore conference but somehow we missed the cut off date.

We are doing some interesting things here with IB and digital curriculum. Basically writing units along side teachers that use ICT to differentiate but are very true to the IB philosophy. We are integrating a concepts based approach to our learning here and having a real impact on what teachers are delivering to students both fro a library and classroom context.

Hi Ingrid,

Yes I remember meeting you in Prague. I travelled all the way from Adelaide just for that Conference and then went back home!

I'm really pleased you use our links. We are happy to respond to requests, so keep this in mind, if you have any special topics for your students.

Best wishes,

Paul.

Ingrid - I would suggest you make direct contact with Luisa Marquardt, one of the conference organisers, to discuss the best strand for your suggested presentation. You can grab her contact details from this web link http://www.iasl-online.org/events/conf/2009/contacts.htm

Getting into routines again.

I love holidays but isn't it difficult to remember what you were doing before?

It also doesn't help that the weather is finally gorgeous and warm again after a long, long winter and the garden is calling. Winter is definitely the time to get work done...
