Very busy days in Abano - Padua (...and Rome) the last ones, in preparation of the IASL 2009 Conference!
A meeting with school principals and teachers was held in Abano, at Alexander Palace Hotel, on July 10th in order to organize the opening ceremony. Later in that day, Donatella and Luisa, with the assistance of Luciana, met the Deputy Mayor of Abano, Dr Guenter Kirschner, and the Assessor of Education, dr Tonina Balbo (see picture). An enthusiastic help will be provided to our Conference! In fact, the City Council of Abano Terme will be supporting the Conference in many ways:
a) a welcome dinner with local products and wines will be offered to accompany the Award ceremony on Sept. 1st evening;
b) the participation of the City Council in the final part of the Opening Ceremony on Sept.2nd will let us know many interesting things and give us tips about Abano and its well known SPA tradition;
c) the participation of the City Council in the Gala Dinner and Auction: nice items to be auctioned will be donated! They will contribute to raise money for the several projects and scholarships;
d) a farewell "pizza-based" dinner and a guided "Abano-by-night" walk will be offered on July 4th.
Furthermore, guides, maps, leaflets, all information materials will be provided in a large number to the participants.
Of course, the public libraries and school libraries in Abano, Montegrotto and surroundings offer their hospitality for meetings and visits (we're working at their schedule). Don't miss to visit the Biblioteca Civica di Abano (designed by Arch. Paolo Portoghesi) and other libraries in the area!

Thanks Luisa
It seems like you and your team have prepared a great event for us. And of course it is in Italy. Say no more. I look forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new faces. Packing tonight.
Happy travels everyone.
Best wishes
